Fun Activity: Signs of Spring

Hello fellow kids! Look around, listen, can you hear spring sounds? You might hear birds singing. You might see the sun shining & melting the snow & ice. You might also hear the drip, drip, dripping of the melting snow. You may even see the birds that you hear. Look some more. If you look real close you will probably see new plants & buds. Look at the ends of the branches on trees, the bumps at the ends are the new buds, soon they will be leaves. You may even see little leaves! Search For more signs of spring!

Happy Spring!

Kid's Recipe Corner

The Girls' favorite Shortbread recipe
from Baking Day from Love Food

scant 1 1/2 cups flour, plus extra for dusting
pinch of salt
1/4 cup superfine sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

3/4 cup butter, cut into small pieces, plus extra for greasing

1) Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch fluted round tart pan.
2) Mix together the flour, salt and sugar. Rub the butter into the dry ingredients. Continue to work the mixture until it forms a soft dough. Do not overwork.
3) Lightly press dough into tart pan. If you don't have a tart pan, roll out dough on a lightly floured board, place on a cookie sheet and pinch the edges to form a scalloped pattern.
4) Mark into 8 pieces with a knife. Prick all over with a fork and bake inthe center of the oven for 45-50 minutes unti lthe shortbread is firm and just colored.
5) Let cool in the pan and sprinkle with sugar. Cut into portions and remove to wire rack.s

Yield: 8 pieces
