The EATinG Program (Engaging Alaskan Teens in Gardening) is a unique experiential educational program for youth that want to work as a team, learn how to grow their own food, set up farm stands, spend time outside in the garden and make friends!

 

 

Student Gardeners learn the ins and outs of gardening from bed eating2preparation, seeding, transplanting, weeding, plant identification, composting, irrigation, harvesting and market set up!

Student Gardeners will receive $15 per work day in Veggie Bucks which are vouchers to buy vegetable at any of Calypso’s Farm Stands or Markets throughout the summer!

Student Gardeners have the opportunity to gain valuable life skills throughout the program like positive communication in a work environment, teamwork, work ethic, reliability, as well as becoming empowered through garden experience. They will literally see and eat the fruits of their labor! As a result, student gardeners emerge from the program with valuable work and life skills and an enormous sense of accomplishment.

There will be two 4-week sessions at the Hunter Elementary School Garden for Age 11-17: 

Session I: May 30th– June 22nd

Session II: July11th– August 3rd

  Tuesdays and Thursdays*

2p.m. – 5p.m.

   *There will be an optional extra hour (and bonus Veggie Bucks) for Student Gardeners on Farm Stand Thursdays. The Farm Stand will be set up at Hunter– the Stand begins at 4pm and ends at 6pm. Hunter Farm Stands will begin June 15th.
