The EATinG Program (Engaging Alaskan Teens in Gardening) is a unique experiential educational program for youth ages 11-17 that want to work as a team, learn how to grow their own food, set up farm stands, spend time outside in the garden and make friends!

 

EATinG Student Gardeners learn the ins and outs of growing their own food through a 4 week session of bed preparation, seeding, transplanting, weeding, plant , composting, irrigation, harvesting, market set up and eating fresh vegetables!

For each week of attendance in EATinG, Student Gardeners receive Veggie Bucks, vouchers that can be exchanged for fresh vegetables at any school garden Farm Stand, the Ester Market or Southside Community Farmers Market throughout the summer! 

Student Gardeners will be empowered through the garden experience, gaining valuable life skills like teamwork, positive communication, good work ethic and reliability. By literally seeing and eating the fruits of their labor, Student Gardeners will emerge from the program with life and work skills, confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

The program runs in 4-week sessions, Monday – Thursday 3-6pm each week. There will be sessions at the Hunter, Pearl Creek and Woodriver Elementary School Gardens this summer.
