Viking-style knives are beautiful, simple knives with blade and handle all in one; Viking women supposedly wore these utility knives on their tunics. This 2 day class will introduce you to the world of tool steel and knife making: working the steel, annealing, hardening and tempering. In the first day, we will explore the properties of tool steels and draw out knife blanks from round stock tool steel, creating roughed in knives that will anneal overnight. On the second day, we will begin with fine-tuning our hammering skills as we refine the blade shape, then file the blades, oil quench the knives, temper and sharpen the blade, and finally dress the knives.
